Xbox Live through a Laptop and wifi

xbox-live1

For all the people who got xbox live this Christmas, this is for you.  I was recently asked how you would go about connecting to xbox live using a laptop and a wifi connection.  This process seems pretty simple just get on wireless and plug in the xbox right? EEAAHH (I guess that is how you would type it).  It is simple but not that simple.   The process for windows XP and Windows Vista is pretty similar, but there are a few differences. For a detailed explination with pictures follow the link below.

The steps consist of going to your wireless connection in the properties sections - selecting “Sharing tab” and enabling Internet Connection Sharing.  Once enabled disable windows firewall or open the xbox live ports as listed below.

  • TCP 80
  • UDP 88
  • UDP 3074
  • TCP 3074
  • UDP 53
  • TCP 53

Once this is completed proceed to plug an straight through cat5 cable from Xbox Ethernet to Laptop Ethernet port and your xbox should receive an IP address.  All should be up and running at this point. See you on live.  Also for those of you who don’t know I am butchypoo on xboxlive but am taking a break from that account gold expired and using up a 2 month free trial as butchypoo3. Happy Fraggin’
